What is PIT?
“The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on a single night in January.”

Why Do We Count?
According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, “Point-in-time counts are important because they establish the dimensions of the problem of homelessness and help policymakers track progress toward ending homelessness”.
This means that when you go out to count the unsheltered individuals on January 31st, your collected data will be used to make informed decisions that have the power to reduce homelessness in Monterey & San Benito Counties.
Information collected from the count is required to continue receiving federal funding for programs that reduce homelessness in Monterey & San Benito Counties. This allows us to help individuals and families who are in urgent need of housing.
The data collected during the Point-in-Time Count also known as consensus provides a snapshot as to what the population experiencing homelessness in our community looks like during a single, 24-hour period to help community planners better address the issue.
We encourage you to volunteer with us and create a lasting impact to help individuals and families in need.
